School Year Programming & Events

There are many ministry opportunities going on each week to help you grow in your faith and connect with other students. If you have any questions about what is going on, just call us in the Youth Office at 324-7251 or check the weekly Student or Parent Newsletter or the BUMC BEAM for our weekly schedule.  Below is our typical weekly schedule during the school year:
 

SUNDAY MORNINGS:

  • 9:30 am Humphrey's Street Coffee House is open to just hang out or buy breakfast & coffee.The Game Room is open for games such as Wii, Xbox, ping pong, or pool.

  • 9:45 am  7th- 8th Grade large group Sunday School filled with teaching, discussion groups, activities, interacting with new people, games and more in the Jr. High Room (A182).

  • 9:45 am  9th-12th Grade have various options to choose from including:

    • High School Sunday School - Large Group Bible Study - Room A192, Tabernacle

    • Topical/Current Events Discussion - Room A191

    • Youth Disciple - Small Bible Study, commitment through attendance & reading required - Room A190, Youth Prayer Chapel (For more information, contact Deb Enright at enrightd@comcast.net or Sue Thornton at Susan1construct@aol.com)

    • 9th-12th Grades can also help teach Preschool, Elementary Sunday School classes or HWY 56 (If interested, contact Lindsay Brooks at lbrooks@bumc.net)

    • 11th-12th Grades can commit to helping with 7th-8th Grade Sunday School (if interested, contact Neal Wilkinson at nwilkinson@bumc.net)

SUNDAY NIGHTS:

Small Groups consist of 8-12 students of the same grade and 2 trained adult co-leaders.  Small Groups are a place where you can get connected to a community of other students where you can grow in your relationship with God and others, as well as have fun together and participate in service opportunities.  To join a small group contact Rosanne Schenck at rschenck@bumc.net.

MONDAYS:

  • 6:45 am Manfest with Travis for any High School guys at Dimple's Deli on Maryland Way

  • 3:15 pm Carpool to volunteering with Harvest Hands for After School Program.  Meet at BUMC leaving at 3:30 returning at 6:15 pm.

 

Harvest Hands CDC is a nonprofit Christian Community Development ministry in South Nashville committed to being good neighbors.  Harvest Hands is also committed to the empowerment of children, youth and families so that they might become all that God has created them to be. We are on a journey together for wholeness in South Nashville.  More information on Harvest Hands

TUESDAYS:

  • 6:30 am "Tuesday Breakfast Club" with Lindsay for all High School students at Bruegger's  Bagels (across from church)

  • 4:00 pm  Meet Nellie at Chik-Fil-A for Middle School Hangtime (board games, game room, snacks, hot chocolate, and hanging out)

  • 6:15 pm Carpool to volunteering at Odyssey Game Night at Room in the Inn and play games at the Odyssey Program, returns around 8:45 pm

Odyssey Program at Room in the Inn is a two year program for veterans who want to stay clean and sober, learn job skills and return to independent living off the streets.  Poverty Project hosts "game nights." This requires gifts of presence and play!  We take board games & munchies to just hang out and play with the men in the program.

WEDNESDAY:

  • 3:15  Carpool to volunteering 61st Avenue after school program, return around 5:45.

  • 5:30-6:30  Youth Cafe & Game Room is open for hanging out, doing homework, playing games.

  • 6:30-7:30 Teams & Bible Studies meet in various locations in the youth area. View your options

     

Summer 2012 Calendar of Events

 

Basketball - There is a Nashville area Church Basketball league that runs from December-February.  Team Formations:  7th-12th Girls, 7th-8th Boys, and 9th-12th Boys.  If you have any questions, please contact Rosanne Schenck at 324-7251.

Super Bowl Party for all our 7th-12th grade students and student ministry volunteers on Super Bowl Sunday  in the Youth Area.  Come hang out with us, eat some great food, watch the game, or just hand with friends a we watch the big game!    To help in any way, contact Elizabeth Waynick at ewaynick@bumc.net or 577-7251.

Senior Overnight Retreat - Each Spring to explore issues that seniors are facing and prepare seniors for the college transition. We have a few college students with us to share about their college transition experiences and what it has been like for them to maintain their faith during their college years.  We also have opportunities for worshiping, growing, and fellowshipping together! 

Youth Confirmation - is for anyone in 7th-12th grade who has NOT gone through Confirmation before OR for those wanting a re-fresher course.  It occurs during the spring semester each year.   For more information, contact Rosanne Schenck at rschenck@bumc.net or 324-7251.

OPPORTUNITY TO EARN MONEY FOR SUMMER 2012 MISSION TRIPS AND CHOIR TOURS Kid Sale is each Fall and Spring. The Student Ministry helps set-up and tear-down the BUMC Fall and Spring Kid Sales (consignment sale) in the Gym.  Through your help, you can earn money for your summer mission trip or youth choir tour.  The more people you have working on your behalf, the more money you can earn toward you trip.  We are mostly setting up and tearing down clothing racks, so if you have any ratchets, bring them labeled with your name!  Spring dates:  Set Up on Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 pm. and Tear Down on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 pm.

Rock the Chains - This is a Battle of the Bands concert that raises money and awareness for human slave trafficking. Band Auditions are open to any 7th-12th graders in the community, you do not have to   go to BUMC to participate. Learn more at RockTheChains.com2012 Dates:  Band Rehearsals - Thursday, May 3;

TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR

Senior Celebration -  May each year in the youth Tabernacle (2012 Date:  Sunday, May 13 at 9:45 a.m.). This is an opportunity for our seniors (those graduating high school in 2012) and their families to gather together to celebrate the past and look forward to the future as we honor our seniors.  The Seniors  also get recognized at the 8:30 Service in the Sanctuary during May.  For more information, contact Elizabeth Waynick at ewaynick@bumc.net.  


Annual Youth Fall Kickoff & Picnic - Church-wide event in mid-August that includes:  inflatables, live music, and free food.  Great opportunity to invite your friends and get the year started off with a lot of fun together!

Progressive Dinner is in early December each year. This event costs $5.  Everyone brings an unwrapped gift for the manger as a donation (no gift cards).  We start off at BUMC before going to visit a home-centered member in our congregation.  Everyone then travels to a home for grade level appetizers before going to another home for dinner together.  We all end up back at BUMC for dessert together.  This is a great night of service, fellowship, fun, and lots of food!
